This mantra is about giving and receiving love. It sounds so simple but how many people do things for others and then complain they never get anything in return. How many do wonderful things from feelings of obligation rather than just generously giving with no expectation of receiving any thank you, validation or compensation. Giving just for the joy of being able to contribute with love. It seems the hardest thing to do is keep our hearts open amidst the challenges of life. It can seem impossible to be able to meet life as it presents itself to us when our history and our media tells us we need to protect ourselves against having our hearts broken, our greatest ideas or accomplishments stolen from us by another, or bounce back from a betrayal or severe illness with vitality and optimism that the world is a beneficent place. There is no doubt life presents challenges amidst the gifts and magic. My father would often say life is like riding a bicycle – occasionally you get to freewheel but most of the time it is uphill.
This meditation is about opening the heart so you cam meet life as it presents itself in every moment with its joys, grief, delights and difficulties. And the truth is they will both keep coming. The test of course is how we respond to them. It is understandable that one would build walls of protection and become a little wary of others, but when we do we miss the opportunities to see the beauty and magic that is present in life woven among the tough times: how friends and families rally around to support you, the windfall that arrives at just the right time. It is said the difference between he warrior and the human is that the warrior sees everything as a gift: the challenges are opportunities to learn.
When your heart remains open you feel balanced and strong no matter what happens because you know it is not personal, you can maintain your objectivity and see the bigger picture. It is life happening. It is not good or bad just life and you can choose your next step. Sat mean truth, Kar Tar means God is the doer. In Kundalini Yoga God is the Generator, Organiser and Destroyer acknowledging that everything that begins will end and then transform to begin again. This mantra asks you to live in a state of faith: the state of your essential nature and your truth. You are calling on your soul to experience this moment as it is is. When we open to the flow of the Universe, we establish a channel for the Universe to flow back to us in response, like a dance.
The goal with the heart chakra is to be open and allow life to flow. And yes, I acknowledge that is so much easier said than done. Like all good things it takes practice. It is not about being perfect but remembering the beauty and magic that is waiting for us in every moment we are ready to see it.
I have seen people fall in love after practicing this kriya. Practicing the mantra balances the functioning of the endocrine system, which normalizes the production of hormones, and that generates a general system of well being. Not bad eh for a few minutes of chanting. Sending love to you all.
